Mom’s Garden

My parents have a few different spaces on their property where they have gardens, but I happened to photograph the garden out by the front stoop where my mom keeps some herbs and flowers.  Really pretty hydrangeas line the whole front of the house. They are a mix of blues, pinks and purples. They're so vibrant in the spring and summer.  There's also a few lone marigolds in front of the hydrangeas. They bring the orange and yellow to the table.  Check out this cool bumble bee action shot. I was playing around with the settings on the DSLR. This…

Mom’s Strawberry Almond Milk Ice Cream

It's definitely strawberry week in my house! Strawberry jam, strawberry coconut milk ice cream were posted last week and now I moved on to strawberry almond milk ice cream. My mom doesn't eat coconut milk, so I made an almond milk version for her. This recipe isn't as creamy as the coconut milk version, but it is just as delicious! Almond milk has a lot less fat than coconut milk, so this ice cream could be said to be a little healthier as well. But I wouldn't say too much healthier because they both obviously have some sugar in them, ha!…

Strawberry Ice Cream—Dairy Free (Coconut Milk)

I finally got around to making some homemade ice cream for the summer and this new strawberry ice cream I came up with does not disappoint! It is creamy and absolutely delicious. The flavor is not like your typical strawberry ice cream. I definitely believe the custard base I use is what brings this ice cream to the next level. My husband's eyes popped right out of his head after he tasted it. This homemade ice cream is more than worth the effort.  I made this ice cream with a custard base that has to be cooked because it has egg…

Homemade Strawberry Jam–No Pectin Needed

My husband and I went berry picking last weekend to get the last of the strawberries before they went out of season. They were so red and ripe, I couldn't wait to get home and make some fresh jam with them. This was only my second time making jam and the result was quite successful! I made two batches with differing amounts of sugar and they came out a tad different, both equally good though. If you go on the internet and search jam recipes, the variation in the amounts of sugar that is  put into different recipes amazes me. Some…

July Bullet Journal Theme: Studio Ghibli

This month I decided to go with a studio ghibli theme for my bullet journal spreads and I love it! I thought I would share it, in case you need some inspiration. My inspiration came from the Black Goddess blog who shared her studio ghibli spread.I love studio ghibli movies so I thought it would be perfect to draw some characters from the movies in my journal. My favorite is Howl's Moving Castle. I made a cute checklist too so I can try and watch all the movies, I haven't seen every one yet!  Monthly Spread I start off every…

Almond Butter Cookies—Gluten & Dairy Free

I only recently discovered the wonders of almond butter. I am a huge peanut butter fan, so I never thought to try alternate nut butters, but I am super happy I did because almond butter is healthier than peanut butter and it's pretty darn yummy!  So I decided on developing a almond butter cookie recipe that was allergy free. These super yummy almond butter cookies are chewy and delicious with added chocolate chips and pecans.  I love baking, it's one of my favorite things, but I have never tried to make my own recipes. I have always been the follow-the-recipe…

Classic Treacle Tart

Great Baking Challenge Recipe #8: Great British Bake Off/Baking Show, Series 3 (UK)  Episode 3: Technical Challenge– Designer Fruit Tart My next bake was so British I couldn’t even get all my ingredients at the super market, I had to order one ingredient online! You might recall this dessert mentioned in Harry Potter... Treacle Tart! I had no idea what to expect from this, let alone the taste.   Treacle Tart is actually a super easy, yummy recipe that I will turn to if I need to make a dessert on the fly. I even keep Golden Syrup stocked in my…

Chocolate Lava Cakes for Two—Gluten & Dairy Free

If you couldn't tell by now I love chocolate. So when I came across Smitten Kitchen's Chocolate Lava Cake recipe meant for two, I jumped on it. These lava cakes have an intense chocolate flavor and a lovely gooey center. This recipe is my stand-by for a yummy, elegant looking dessert that's quick to whip up. It's so easy, my husband even helps me make it sometimes (he loves eating a lot more than cooking).  Make the Batter The batter is only six ingredients! And the best part is you should already have everything in your pantry. It's also gluten-free.…

Introduction to Bullet Journaling for the Crafty and Organized

I have never managed to keep a journal for more than a couple months at at a time. I was just never able to commit myself to writing down my life daily. But bullet journaling is an entirely different story. I started bullet journaling late last year and I haven't stopped since. For me, bullet journaling is as much a creative outlet as a way to organize my day. It's like a scrapbook, sketchbook, journal and planner all wrapped into one. It is so much fun!  Christmas Planning Spread The Bare Bones Let me first start by explaining the bullet journal…
